How to transfer Rhapsody songs to iPod iPhone and iPad

Rhapsody is a popular music store, compare with iTunes store, it's really cheap to enjoy unlimited download on Rhapsody for only $10 per month. If you have an iPod or iPad and want to put music on iPod, I'm sure you don't want to re-buy the songs on iTunes store again. But rhapsody songs have Digital rights management (DRM) protection; they are not compatible with iTunes, you need to remove the DRM before importing into your iTunes library.

There are two ways to remove DRM protection. If your computer has a DVD burner, you can burn the Rhapsody songs to CD/DVD, and then use iTunes to rip the songs from CD/DVD to your iTunes library, the DRM protection will be removed during the process. This method will cost a little bit more time, but it’s free and convenient.

But if you have large amount of songs collection, the method above is not suitable for you. I'd suggest you to remove DRM with third party software. I have tried some DRM removal program, and recommend this DRM Media Converter. It's really easy to use. More importantly, it can remove the DRM and keep the songs original quality. I wrote a simple tutorial about how to use the DRM Media Converter, hope it helps.

Step1. Download the DRM Media Converter, double click it to install it, the default settings work well with all Windows system, you don't need to make any configuration.

Step2. Launch the program; find the Rhapsody downloaded songs on your computer. And then drag and drop them into the DRM converter.

Step3. Click "Settings" dropdown list and go to "Format -> Apple" to choose an output format according to your devices, such as iPod touch, iPod Nano or iPad 2. And then click "Start" to run the DRM Removal Process. When the conversion is finished, click "Find Target" to locate your DRM free songs.

Here is some simple introduction about DRM. "DRM" knows as Digital Right Management, which was introduced some time ago. And it is very famous; due to the reason some big brands are using it to protect the rights, preventing the illegal copying. Nevertheless, all these years of inventing, the most remarkable achievement for "DRM" was really limited the usage of the media files to the customers. Take iTunes as an example, as the biggest online music retailer, or even the biggest music retailer in the world, is still selling 90% of the media files as DRM protected. Therefore, we can only play the music in the specific music players, like iPod, iPhone, iPad, the very luxury music player from Apple itself. However, what if you accidently bought some other mp3 player, such as: Zune, PSP, Mobile Phone, and Creative Zen. Etc. Sorry, you can’t play it!

How to use iTunes to make cool and free ringtone for iPhone

iPhone is more and more popular, if you are iPhone user and you are board with iPhone’s build-in ringtone, this step by step guide will help you a lot. It will show you how to use iTunes to make free and cool personal ringtone for your iPhone, even you are new iPhone user can manage it. This guide works for all series of iPhone including iPhone 5, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPhone original.

Step1. Right-click on the song in iTunes and select "Get Info" from the pop-up menu. Choose the Options tab and change the Stop Time to 0:30 for 30 seconds of play time. This won't change or damage the actual file; it just tells iTunes to only play the first 30 seconds of the song (plenty of time for you to answer your phone). You can change this setting back to full length after you create your ring tone.

Step2. Configure the MP3 Encoder built into iTunes to use 22khz and mono encoding (the format used by iPhone or cell phone ring tones).Click the Preferences menu and then choose the Advanced tab. Click "Importing" and then choose "MP3 Encoder" from the Import Using drop down. Choose "Custom..." from the Settings dropdown, which will display an "MP3 Encoder" dialog like the one shown below.

Step3. Convert the song to ringtone MP3 format by right-clicking it in iTunes and selecting "Convert Selection to MP3" from the popup menu. iTunes will make a copy of the song and you'll see that the time will change to 30 seconds. Send the ringtone to your phone using a usb data cable or Bluetooth. If you want to convert video to mp3 to make ringtone on Mac, this video to mp3 converter will help you a lot.

NOTE: Do not select "Create Ringtone", as this option will charge your account, and also only works with songs you have purchased through the iTunes store.

Step4. You'll need to download software to transfer your new ringtone to your phone via Bluetooth or a USB data cable, something phone manufactures don't include with their phones. If you're using a USB data cable, then I recommend DataPilot - it works with all major phone types and lets you transfer ring tones, photos, videos, contacts, etc. If you're using Bluetooth to transfer your ring tones, then Ringtone Media Studio is worth looking at. It lets you transfer ring tones to your cell phone using a bluetooth connection AND automatically creates ring tones from your favorite CDs and MP3s, without all the manual steps required by iTunes.

Step5. Now that the ringtone is on your iPhone, you can set it as your iPhone default ringtone. With the tricks described in this article you can make iTunes create free ringtones for you, or you can use Ringtone Media Studio to make it even easier to create free ringtones out of your favorite music.
